In 1997, the Government of Canada introduced a program designed to make Canada the most "connected" nation in the world. There are six parts to this initiative and one of them is called Smart Communities.
Connect Calgary was part of the Smart Communities core program. It featured a range of organizations collaborating to improving the delivery of community services to individuals at risk with funding from Industry Canada for three years. It is all about helping people gain access to technologies so they can improve their lives.
Connect Calgary partners include: Calgary Board of Education, Calgary Drop-in Centre, Calgary Health Region, Calgary Homeless Foundation, Calgary Technologies Inc., Mount Royal College, Mustard Seed Ministries, Salvation Army, SAIT, The City of Calgary, University of Calgary, Bow Valley College and Calgary Homeless Foundation.
CalgaryEducation.org is full participant in the national Computer Literacy Resources initiative. This initiative is made possible through the financial assistance of the National Literacy Secretariat (a division of Human Resources Development Canada) in partnership with the Ottawa Centre for Research and Innovation (OCRI) and Sm@rtSites (one of Ottawa's Smart Communities projects).
